Lula on Dilma's speech at the UN: "It made me proud"

While participating in a rally in Ceilândia (DF), in support of Agnelo Queiroz's reelection in the Federal District, former president Lula said he felt "proud" of President Dilma Rousseff's speech on Wednesday at the opening of the United Nations General Assembly; "I was proud of Dilma's speech at the UN, Brazil was removed from the Hunger Map, but the newspapers said she went to the UN to do politics and campaign," Lula stated; "We can't play around because the press is the biggest opposition party we have today. If the Brazil they describe every day were true, the country would have collapsed"; the speech was criticized by political opponents and also outraged the Brazilian right, which accused President Dilma of siding with the terrorists of the Islamic State.

Brasilia 247 Last night, while participating in a rally in Ceilândia, one of the satellite cities of the Federal District, former president Lula said that the Brazilian press "has a grudge" against President Dilma Rousseff and also stated that he felt proud of the speech she gave at the opening of the United Nations General Assembly – a speech that outraged the Brazilian right wing (read here).

"I was proud of Dilma's speech at the UN; Brazil was removed from the Hunger Map, but the newspapers said she went to the UN to do politics and campaign," Lula stated. "We can't play around because the press is the biggest opposition party we have today. If the Brazil they describe every day were true, the country would have collapsed."

The rally was an act of support for the candidacy of Agnelo Queiroz, who is running for re-election in the Federal District. He reiterated, regarding Marina Silva, that elections are not a matter of love."I also love her (Marina), but the choice for President isn't a matter of love. If it were, I would have called Marisa to be the candidate," he joked, referring to his wife, Marisa Letícia. "When I chose Dilma to be the candidate, I knew she was competent. Dilma was the most competent person, and that's why she didn't allow the country to enter a crisis," he stated.

Criticism of Aécio - Lula also used the event to criticize Aécio Neves, a member of the PSDB party. "When someone talks about a management shock, it means wage cuts, reducing employee benefits, and firing public servants," he said.

Referring to the press, he stated that "the elite and the media are promoting a negative campaign against the PT (Workers' Party) in the same vein as the one carried out against former presidents Getúlio Vargas, João Goulart, and Juscelino Kubitschek."
