Lula chooses Miriam Belchior to replace Rui Costa as Chief of Staff.
The minister will leave his post to run for a Senate seat representing Bahia in the upcoming elections.
247 - The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa (PT), confirmed this Thursday (29) that the current executive secretary of the ministry, Miriam Belchior, was nominated by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to take over the ministry from April. The change will occur due to Rui Costa's decision to leave the position to run for a seat in the Senate in the next elections, as reported by the minister himself to Rádio 95 FM, in Jequié (BA).
The minister said that the choice has already been formally communicated by the president to both him and his future successor. Commenting on the decision, Rui Costa highlighted Miriam Belchior's technical profile and experience in public administration. "The president has already communicated his choice to both me and Miriam. She was Minister of Planning, she works very hard, she is a competent professional, and she will assume the ministry at the beginning of April," he stated.
According to the minister, the choice of a name already part of the government team follows a clear directive from President Lula, with the goal of ensuring continuity in ongoing policies. "The president's priority is that [the nominations] be of someone already on the team, so there is no discontinuity in government actions," added Rui Costa.
Miriam Belchior has held strategic positions in previous governments, including the Ministry of Planning, and currently serves as executive secretary of the Civil House, a position that places her directly involved in coordinating the main actions of the federal Executive branch. With the transition scheduled for April, the expectation within the government is to maintain the pace of ongoing initiatives while Rui Costa prepares for the electoral contest.
