247 - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), stated this Tuesday (15) that he intends to vote next week on the bill that criminalizes the mass dissemination of fake news and creates rules for digital platforms, such as social networks, search engines and messaging applications. According to the parliamentarian, the text will be broad, and "not for a specific case or objective". The reports were published in a report by O Globo newspaper

"We are not going to turn this into a national dispute over Telegram. If there are some issues that need to be analyzed, of course, that has been addressed. There are even some examples from Germany, where Telegram received and complied with some court decisions. And this matter will be dealt with naturally through legislation. We are not going to make this a national issue of conflict, as there have been several before," said Lira, after a meeting with leaders of the base and the rapporteur of the proposal, Orlando Silva (PCdoB-SP).

"We're not going to make a law for a specific case, for a specific person, or for a specific objective. It has to be a moderate law. These technology issues are always advancing very rapidly, and they need a structuring part, issues that can be addressed, like CONAR does, which regulates the basics (in the advertising market), and things evolve within a criterion of reasonableness," he added.

According to the PCdoB congressman, "companies covered by this law are required to have representation in Brazil." "Sanctions are foreseen for non-compliance with the law, based on judicial decisions, including warnings, fines, suspension, and blocking, the latter two to be defined by a special body," he stated.
