The acting president of the Chamber of Deputies, Waldir Maranhão (PP-MA), will notify and give a five-day deadline for party leaders to nominate the members of the committee that will analyze the request for... impeachment from interim president Michel Temer. The information was released this afternoon (6) by members of the PSOL caucus, after a meeting with Waldir Maranhão to discuss the issue.

“He [Waldir Maranhão] promised to notify the leaders today and will give a five-day deadline for party leaders who have not yet indicated their members to do so within that period, otherwise he will do it ex officio,” said the party leader in the Chamber, Ivan Valente (SP).

When contacted, Waldir Maranhão's press office said that he will first discuss the matter with party leaders.

Point of order

Yesterday (5), after being questioned by members of the party, Maranhão read in plenary the answer to a point of order formulated by deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ) in which he questioned the fact that the special commission of impeachment Michel Temer's impeachment process was not completed because party leaders did not appoint their representatives.

In response, the interim president said he had sent a letter to the leaders asking them to nominate the members, but did not clarify whether there would be a deadline for the nominations.

Representative Ivan Valente (PSOL-SP) said that the House Rules provide for the interim president to make the nominations and that this has already happened in the Senate. "He has the prerogative to nominate the members ex officio, and this has already occurred in the Bingo CPI [Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry] in the Senate," he said.

Supreme Court decision

On April 4th, Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Marco Aurélio ordered the Speaker of the House to open a request for... impeachment against interim president Michel Temer, also due to the so-called fiscal maneuvers, filed by lawyer Mariel Marley Marra.

Following the decision, Cunha, who was still in charge of the House at the time, sent a letter to party leaders requesting the nomination of members for the committee. impeachment Temer proposed the commission, but some parties did not nominate candidates, and the commission was not established.

According to the PSOL party, if the Supreme Court's decision is not complied with, Maranhão could be charged with the crime of prevarication. "The interim president is aware of the seriousness of the situation and what it means to disobey a Supreme Court decision, and he assured us that if the party leaders do not nominate the members for the commission within five consecutive days..." impeachment "Temer said he will appoint the members," said Congressman Glauber Braga.

Cunha's removal from office

According to PSOL deputies, Waldir Maranhão also said that he may put to a plenary vote the request to revoke the mandate of the suspended president of the House, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ), before the "white" recess, scheduled for the 17th.

On Wednesday morning, a request for review postponed, until next week, the decision on the appeal of the suspended president of the Chamber of Deputies, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ), in the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ). Responding to requests from almost all parliamentarians on the committee, the committee president, Osmar Serraglio (PMDB-PR), scheduled the new session for 16 pm on Monday (11).

According to Valente, since there will be no vote in the plenary on Monday, the committee will be able to debate and vote on Cunha's appeal. After the vote, the Board of Directors of the Chamber has 48 hours to put the matter on the agenda, giving time for the vote in plenary on Thursday (14). "Once voted on in the CCJ and the rapporteur's opinion is defeated, then there is a regulatory deadline to vote until Thursday and Maranhão said he would comply with the regulatory deadlines" he said.
