247 - Senator Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO) has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and will have to step away from political life to dedicate himself to treatment. The parliamentarian, who is at the end of his first term in the Federal Senate, received the diagnosis in December and has already begun medical follow-up. The information was initially released by the portal Metropolises. Kajuru should review his electoral plans and reduce his participation in political activity in the coming months.

Originally from São Paulo, Kajuru built a career as a sports presenter and commentator on radio and television before entering politics. In 2016, he was elected city councilor in Goiânia with a significant vote count and, two years later, won a seat in the Federal Senate, where he became known for his speeches critical of traditional congressional practices.

During his term, the senator chaired the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on sports betting and became known for forgoing the use of parliamentary allowances, as well as publicly criticizing the benefits and privileges of elected office. Kajuru also frequently questioned the pace of work in the Legislative branch.

In 2025, during the G20 Parliamentary Summit (P20), held in the National Congress, the senator expressed his frustration about the frequent paralysis of legislative activities. On that occasion, he stated: "What a drag it's going to be here next week! Because we hardly work here: it's parliamentary recess, it's elections, it's the second round of voting, nobody comes on Monday, nobody comes on Friday. So, what's going to happen? Excuse my outburst. What's going to happen here next week that we won't be able to have a CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry)?".

Before the diagnosis, the PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party) had considered Kajuru's name to run for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies for São Paulo, his home state, in the 2026 elections. With the confirmation of the illness, however, the senator is likely to step away from public life to prioritize his health.

Parkinson's disease is a degenerative condition that affects the central nervous system and primarily impairs movement. Among the most common symptoms are involuntary tremors, muscle rigidity, and slowness of movement. The disease has no cure, and treatment is aimed at controlling symptoms and attempting to slow its progression.
