The 2nd Military Prosecutor's Office of the Military Public Ministry (MPM) in Brasília will investigate whether weapons were registered in the name of former federal deputy and former president of the PTB party, Roberto Jefferson, in the Army Command's Sigma system. The 2nd Prosecutor's Office's decision was made following investigations by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), which indicate that the registrations were made during a period when Jefferson was imprisoned, which is not permitted. According to the MPF, ten weapons were registered during that period.

According to the Military Public Prosecutor's Office (MPM), there are still no results from the investigations ordered by the 2nd Prosecutor's Office. For now, a preliminary investigation has been opened to determine if there was a crime in the weapons registrations, and inquiries have begun. In this procedure, which is in its initial phase, according to the MPM, information was requested from the Controlled Products Inspection Service of the 11th Military Region, but the responses to the official request have not yet arrived.

According to the Military Public Prosecutor's Office, if evidence of a military crime is identified, a military police investigation will be requested.

Jefferson's defense team informed Agência Brasil that they "will only comment within the official investigative proceedings."

Reu

On December 9, 2022, the Federal Court in Rio de Janeiro accepted the indictment from the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) against the former parliamentarian, who became a defendant for attempted murder against federal police officers, aggravated resistance, and other crimes on October 23 of last year.

This occurred when Roberto Jefferson resisted an arrest warrant issued by Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes. The former congressman was at his home in the city of Comendador Levy Gasparian, in the south-central region of Rio de Janeiro state, and reacted to the presence of the four Federal Police agents who went to the location to execute the arrest warrant.

Jefferson even threw grenades and fired 60 shots with high-caliber weapons at the police. Two police officers were wounded by the gunfire. Jefferson only surrendered seven hours after the police arrived and after intense negotiations.

Prison

After being arrested and spending the night at the headquarters of the Federal Police Superintendency in the port area of Rio, Jefferson underwent a custody hearing the following day and was taken to the Pedrolino Werling de Oliveira prison, known as Bangu 8, in the Gericinó Complex, in the western zone of Rio.

The prison is the same one where Jefferson was taken on August 13th of last year as part of an investigation into anti-democratic acts, in which he is also a defendant.
