247 - Teenager Eduardo Linhares, 17, suffered hemorrhages in both ears and moderate to severe burns over almost his entire body after being struck by lightning during a demonstration by federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), held in Praça do Cruzeiro, in Brasília, last Sunday (25). Despite the severity of the injuries, he was discharged from the hospital this Tuesday (27).

The information is Metropolises. In his statement to the reporter, Eduardo described moments of intense despair immediately after the electric shock, which left him unconscious and with motor and hearing difficulties.

According to the teenager, upon regaining consciousness at the scene of the incident, he realized he couldn't feel his own body from the neck down. "I felt like I was going to live for another hour, I couldn't feel anything," he stated. The sensation of temporary paralysis made him fear he had suffered serious internal injuries.

Eduardo also reported that the force of the lightning strike destroyed the objects he was carrying at the time of the accident. The raincoat he was wearing melted, and the flag he was holding caught fire. Furthermore, his back was torn by the electrical discharge, according to medical evaluation, and he suffered extensive burns.

In another part of his testimony, the young man described the moment he was hit. “It was raining heavily and, suddenly, in the space of a second, I saw an explosion above me and then felt as if my body had been thrown backward. It felt like my soul had been detached. After that, I don't remember anything else,” he recounted.

After the shock, Eduardo lost consciousness and only partially regained consciousness when he noticed his family's movements. He said he saw his mother trying to help his father, who had his hand on his chest, leading him to believe the man was having a heart attack. "At that moment, I was shocked and started to try to figure out what had happened," he commented.

The fear intensified when the teenager tried to get up and realized he couldn't move. "At that moment, some people came to help me and take me to one of the ambulances. I was afraid I had hit something internally," he said. He was initially taken to a private health unit in Asa Sul and then transferred to the Asa Norte Regional Hospital (Hran), where he began to regain movement.

According to the Military Fire Department of the Federal District (CBMDF), at least 89 people received medical attention at Praça do Cruzeiro during the event, most of them suffering from hypothermia. In total, 47 people were transported to health units in the Federal District, 11 of whom required more complex care due to the electrical discharge caused by the lightning strike.
