Evangelical churches increase their power in Congress.

Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), a Bolsonaro supporter and member of the Grace and Peace Evangelical Community, was the most voted-for congressman in Brazil.

247 - A total of 177 of the 203 members of the Evangelical Parliamentary Front in the Chamber ran for a new term last Sunday (2). Of the nearly 180 candidacies, 109 were successful, a rate of over 60%, according to figures published this Friday (7) by newspaper The State of S.Paulo.

Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), 26 years old and a member of the Grace and Peace Evangelical Community, was the most voted congressman in Brazil, with 1,492 million votes.

Pastor Silas Malafaia, from the Assembly of God Victory in Christ in Rio, managed to re-elect federal deputy Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL), president of the Evangelical Parliamentary Front. 

In São Paulo, federal deputy Paulo Freire Costa (PL) will have another term. He is a pastor at the Assembleia de Deus do Belém in Campinas and the son of the church's patriarch, José Wellington Bezerra da Costa, the largest church of its kind in Brazil.

Congressman Silas Câmara (Republicanos-AM), leader of the evangelical caucus, won re-election and got his wife, Antônia Lucia (Republicanos), elected in Acre. The congressman is the brother of Pastor Samuel Câmara, president of the Assembly of God in Belém, Pará. The family owns the Boas Novas TV network and controls the second largest convention of the church in Brazil, after the one governed by José Wellington.

Representative Cezinha Madureira (PSD-SP) was re-elected. The PSD member is a spokesperson for Bishop Samuel Ferreira and a leading figure of the Assembly of God of Madureira in Congress. 

In Ceará, the candidate with the most votes was André Ferreira (PL), from the Assembly of God and son of pastor and state deputy Manoel Ferreira (PL).

Universal and the left

At the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, Bishop Edir Macedo re-elected Representatives Marcos Pereira and Celso Russomano, both from the Republican Party of São Paulo. 

Among left-leaning evangelicals, former minister Marina Silva (Rede), from the Assembly of God, was elected federal deputy for São Paulo. 

In Rio, evangelicals secured the election of Henrique Vieira (PSOL), pastor of the Baptist Church of the Way. They also managed to re-elect Benedita da Silva (PT), of the Assembly of God, and Chico Alencar (PSOL), of the Anglican Church, who will return to Congress.
