Metropolises - The governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), dismissed, this Sunday (14), the deputy commander-general of the Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF), Colonel Sérgio Luiz Ferreira de Souza. The decision is contained in a decree signed by the head of the local Executive branch, dated today.

The dismissal of Colonel Souza is a response to the actions of the Military Police this weekend.

When questioned about the decision, Ibaneis said that “he was dismissed because he allowed protesters to set off fireworks in front of the Supreme Federal Court (STF). The Military Police of the Federal District must, at a minimum, protect the citizens and institutions of the federal capital. If it failed to do so, it erred grossly.”

In justifying his actions, the governor also revealed that the commander of the Military Police, Julian Rocha Pontes, is infected with Covid-19 and hospitalized. "I only didn't hold the commander of the Military Police responsible and dismiss him because he has coronavirus and is hospitalized. He wasn't at fault for anything," said Ibaneis.
