Government plans to spend R$ 30 million on advertising to 'renew Brazilians' hopes'
While the country languishes in second place in the global ranking of Covid-19 cases and deaths, the Jair Bolsonaro government announced a multi-million dollar investment in advertising to "renew the hopes of Brazilians" after the coronavirus pandemic.
247 - The Jair Bolsonaro government announced this Monday (13) that it intends to invest R$ 30 million in advertising to "renew the hopes of Brazilians" after the coronavirus. Secom requested the release of R$ 325 million this year to spend on advertising and public relations. The amount is more than double what was foreseen in the 2020 budget for communication, around R$ 138,1 million.
According to a newspaper report FSPThe campaign's objective will be to present actions for "the country's recovery, reducing the effects left by the coronavirus pandemic crisis."
Commenting on the budget exceeding R$ 320 million, Secom stated that the campaign required more resources due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"The continuation of the advertising campaign is justified by the need to renew the hopes of Brazilians so that they may once again believe in Brazil with optimism, envisioning a better future; to show that the return to work and social life will take place safely, respecting basic hygiene and social distancing measures; and to present the achievements of the federal government in overcoming the pandemic," says a document from Secom.
Currently, Brazil ranks second globally in confirmed cases (1,8 million) and deaths (72) caused by Covid-19. It is second only to the United States, with 3,4 million cases and 137 deaths, according to official data.
