Swimming Festival fills the pools this weekend

Around 600 students from sports schools will participate in the competition; the event takes place at the Aquatic Complex.

Brasilia Agency - An important swimming competition will be held this weekend (14 and 15) at the Aquatic Complex of the DF Sports Secretariat. It is the First Stage of the Swimming Schools Festival of the Federal District - FEN. Around 600 students from swimming schools in the DF and surrounding areas are expected to compete in the festival. The Sports Secretariat, in addition to hosting the event, will also have students from its team competing in the events, in the Children's, Youth and Junior categories. There are 12 female athletes and 36 male athletes.

Promoted by the Aquatic Sports Federation of the Federal District – FDA/DF – with the support of the Department of Sports, the Festival takes place in five stages and is considered a great success due to the number of participants and entities involved. In the end, the school with the highest score is considered the champion.

According to the Secretary of Sports, Célio René, the FEN (National Swimming Festival) is of fundamental importance for the development of swimming in the Federal District. "The festival provides non-federated athletes, students of swimming schools, with the opportunity to improve themselves, competing at the technical standards of an official sporting event," he assesses.

New talents

Held annually, the National Swimming Festival (FEN) has provided the Federal District with the opportunity to discover great talents in the sport. Many athletes who excelled at the festival have already been called up to represent the Federal District's national teams, competing in national events and achieving excellent results. One of them is Ícaro Pereira, 15 years old, a recipient of the Athlete Scholarship from the Department of Sports. Ícaro participated in the FEN in the children's category in 2008. Currently, the athlete is considered one of the best representatives of swimming in Brasília.

Ícaro will compete in the Aquatic Sports Federation Tournament of the Federal District, which also takes place this weekend.
