The former congressman was convicted by the First Panel of the Supreme Court in 2017 for the crime of money laundering, with a sentence of 7 years, 9 months and 10 days in prison. He has been under house arrest for the past four years.
The former congressman was accused by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office of using offshore accounts to launder money embezzled from the São Paulo City Hall when he was mayor of the capital, between 1993 and 1996.
Maluf, 90 years old, is hospitalized at Vila Nova Star Hospital, in the South Zone of São Paulo, after being diagnosed with Covid-19 last Friday (18). The politician's health condition is good.
