247 - Supreme Court Justice Edson Fachin authorized the conditional release of former minister Geddel Vieira Lima for the crime of criminal association in the case of suitcases found containing R$ 51 million in an apartment in Salvador (BA). With the Supreme Court's decision, the politician from the MDB party will be able to work and return home. The former federal deputy was arrested in 2017 for money laundering and criminal association.
According to the G1 portalThe Supreme Court minister stated that the arguments presented by the former federal deputy's defense suggest "a sense of self-discipline and responsibility."
In addition to the change in prison regime, Fachin also authorized the deduction of 681 days from the 13-year and four-month sentence imposed in the case.
Geddel's defense requested a reduction in his sentence due to his participation in professional training courses at the Papuda Penitentiary Complex in Brasília (DF) and at the Penal Observation Center in Salvador.
The lawyers' argument was based on "dedication to reading and writing reviews" and passing the 2017 National High School Exam (Enem).
