Detran (Brasília's traffic department) innovates with Operation 'Last Sip,' which approaches drivers leaving bars and restaurants; the operation has already caught 35 drivers showing signs of intoxication in Brasília; in the first half of the year, violations of the 'Dry Law' decreased in Brasília.
Brasilia 247 – A new type of traffic stop is underway in the Federal District. Agents from the Department of Traffic (Detran) are observing patrons of bars and restaurants in plain clothes to identify those who will overindulge in alcohol and then get behind the wheel. When the person starts driving, a marked police car intervenes and stops the driver.
The operation, dubbed "Last Sip," began last month and has already resulted in 35 arrests of drivers showing signs of intoxication, 14 vehicle seizures, and 31 traffic violations.
Last Tuesday, we reported here on the number of violations of the Dry Law in Brasília. They fell in the first quarter of the year. The main advantage of the spy blitz is its discretion, which makes it difficult for other drivers to disclose blitz routes on social media.
