In a meeting with representative organizations, Pimenta defends freedom in the exercise of journalistic work.

The Minister of the Secretariat of Social Communication expressed solidarity with the professionals who were attacked while covering the coup-mongering events on Sunday.

247 - The Minister of the Secretariat of Social Communication (Secom) of the Presidency of the Republic, Paulo Pimenta, in a meeting with representative entities of journalists from Brazil and press professionals at the Planalto Palace, in Brasília (DF), this Monday (9), heard reports about the attacks on the press registered during the coup acts on Sunday (8) on the Esplanade.

In total, 13 cases of attacks against journalists were recorded in Brasília. One of these attacks was against the commentator for TV 247, journalist Tereza Cruvinel. According to Secom, on Tuesday (10) nine more cases of attacks were recorded in different states of the country where the camps with protesters are being cleared.

Minister Paulo Pimenta stated that "the Federal Government is concerned with publicly demonstrating solidarity with communication professionals and reaffirming its commitment to freedom in the exercise of journalistic work. Our desire is, within the various initiatives being adopted, to create a special chapter regarding journalists."

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji), the Journalists' Union of the Federal District, the National Federation of Journalists (Fenaj), the organization Reporters Without Borders, media professionals, and the former president of Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), Tereza Cruvinel.
