Doyle: PT is to blame for Gambiarra's pro-Temer vote.

Journalist Hélio Doyle recalls that it was the "Building a New Brazil" faction that nominated Hélio Gambiarra, the "watermelon nominator," as Rodrigo Rollemberg's alternate; "If the preferences of then-minority sectors in the party had prevailed, Rollemberg's alternate position would have gone to Chico Machado or former congresswoman Maria Laura. Both are still in the PT and would certainly be performing the mandate better than Hélio José," he says.

The internal faction "Building a New Brazil," which holds a majority within the PT, is responsible for the nomination of Hélio José (pictured) as Rodrigo Rollemberg's first alternate in the 2010 Senate elections. An internal deal ensured his selection for the ticket led by the PSB candidate and Vilmar Lacerda's appointment as Cristovam Buarque's first alternate, from the PDT.

If the preferences of then-minority sectors within the party had prevailed, Rollemberg's substitute position would have gone to Chico Machado or former congresswoman Maria Laura. Both are still in the PT and would certainly be performing the mandate better than Hélio José.

And although this wouldn't influence the outcome, they would be voting against the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff – which, for the PT (Workers' Party), makes a difference.
