Predictably, Raquel Dodge, the new Attorney General appointed by the Usurper, is joining the fascist movement that aims to overthrow the Constitution and institute a new penal regime where more people are imprisoned before they can defend themselves before a third and final instance.
Details: Brazilian judges can already arrest anyone at any time. The new law they want to institute is merely to eliminate the few mechanisms that allow a defendant – not yet convicted in the final instance – to await trial in freedom.
Dodge's opinion is part of a wave. This wave includes the defense of pretrial detention, as advocated by Sergio Moro, in a country where there are states with almost 70% of prisoners held in pretrial detention, the end of habeas corpus, the increase in arbitrary powers for prosecutors and judges to play at life and death, and the institution of torture for the purpose of extracting confessions in collusion with the prosecution.
