BRASILIA (Reuters) - President Dilma Rousseff will submit to the Senate next Monday, the 10th, the nomination of Rodrigo Janot for another term as Attorney General of the Republic, Senator Romero Jucá (PMDB-RR) told Reuters this Friday.

According to Jucá, who said he spoke with Dilma on Friday about the matter, the Senate is expected to approve Janot's reappointment for a new two-year term as Attorney General of the Republic.

"I spoke with President Dilma today and she will nominate Janot on Monday, and we will approve it," said Jucá.

Besides Jucá, other senators, from both the government's base and the opposition, stated that the climate in the House is favorable to the approval of Janot's reappointment as Attorney General.

"The climate in the Senate, as an institution, is favorable to Janot's nomination," said the president of the DEM party, Senator José Agripino Maia (RN).

A third senator, from the government's base and speaking on condition of anonymity, also said that Janot's name should pass in the Senate.

"The president has always adopted this stance (of appointing the first on the shortlist of prosecutors). The climate is favorable. He will be approved," said this third senator.

Janot heads the shortlist of three candidates submitted by the National Association of Federal Prosecutors (ANPR) to President Dilma on Thursday.

Currently the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), Janot has been leading the investigations into politicians involved in Operation Lava Jato, which is investigating a billion-dollar corruption scheme involving Petrobras.

The presidents of the Chamber of Deputies, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ), and the Senate, Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), are among the politicians targeted by investigations related to Lava Jato at the Supreme Federal Court (STF).

To be reappointed to the position, Janot needs to be questioned and approved by the Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ), in addition to passing a vote in the Senate plenary.
