Leandro Cipriano, Brasília Agency - Four financing contracts with Caixa Econômica Federal (CEF) were signed this Monday (25) by Governor Agnelo Queiroz, to benefit 300 people in the DF with the implementation of the sewage system in several regions. CEF will finance R$ 80 million, and, with the counterpart of R$ 36 million from Caesb, the total investment will amount to R$ 116 million.

"We will expand the sewage system coverage in the Federal District, including serving older areas that previously lacked it. This will put us in a prominent position in Brazil. Our goal is to reach 100% sanitation coverage, which is essential for the health of the population," highlighted Agnelo Queiroz.

The funds are divided among four contracts: two of them are scheduled to be put out to tender in December of this year, and the others, by February 2014, with a two-year execution period, in condominiums in Lago Sul, Sobradinho, Águas Claras, Paranoá, Itapoã and Park Way. See the detailed locations below.

"Governor Agnelo's team, very carefully and conscientiously, ensured that we had this advance in projects and budgets so that we could make this immediate publication, which will include 300 more people in this basic service," emphasized the vice-governor, Tadeu Filippelli.

According to the president of Caesb, Célio Biavati, the expectation is that, in 2015, residents of the served areas will begin using the new sewage system.

"Currently, about 83% of the Federal District has (sewage treatment), and with these works, we hope to expand that to approximately 90%. But what we are aiming for is the universalization of the system, and we will continue to pursue the remaining 10%," Biavati emphasized.

According to Gilberto Magalhães, Vice President of the Government Area at Caixa Econômica Federal, the measure will position the nation's capital as one of the states with the best sanitation in the country.

"Brasília now has another opportunity to stand out with this investment, and thus achieve almost total coverage. Not every place has the capacity to undertake such an action, which is of paramount importance for quality of life," praised Magalhães.

The sanitation works were planned under the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC) II of the federal government, to serve areas of the Federal District through the Ministry of Cities and CEF (Caixa Econômica Federal).

SOBRADINHO – In addition to the implementation of the sanitation system, Sobradinho will have its Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) expanded, with new primary and secondary settling units and sludge digesters, among other changes. In total, 255 people will benefit from the measure.

The investment will total R$ 28,4 million: R$ 16 million financed by Caixa and R$ 12 million as a counterpart from Caesb. The financing tender is expected to be published by February 2014.
