Congresswoman demands explanations regarding Cunha's continued stay in Brasília.
Federal Deputy Erika Kokay (PT-DF) announced that she will question the Governor of the Federal District, Rodrigo Rollemberg, and Judge Vallisney de Souza Oliveira about the continued presence of former federal deputy Eduardo Cunha (PMDB) at the Specialized Police Department (DPE) of the Federal District Civil Police; "There, he receives visits, which we don't know if there is any control over, and he is here in a different way compared to other people who are imprisoned," she stated; "Is Eduardo Cunha here in the DPE facilities using this position to orchestrate and weave the tentacles that cause hemorrhagic corruption in this country?", she questioned.
Brasilia 247 - Federal Deputy Erika Kokay (PT-DF) took to the floor of the Federal Chamber this Friday (11/10) to announce that she will send questions to the Governor of the Federal District, Rodrigo Rollemberg, and to Judge Vallisney de Souza Oliveira, of the 10th Federal Criminal Court of Brasília, regarding the continued presence of former federal deputy and former president of the Chamber, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB), at the Department of Specialized Police (DPE), an installation linked to the Civil Police of the Federal District.
"We are with Eduardo Cunha at the Public Defender's Office in the Federal District; there, he receives visitors, whose visits we don't know if they are monitored, and he is here in a different way compared to other people who are imprisoned," stated the congresswoman. "For example, Henrique Eduardo Alves, who also presided over this House, gave his testimony via videoconference. Why did Eduardo Cunha have to come to Brasília?" Kokay questioned.
"Why is Eduardo Cunha, who testified, if my memory serves me right, on November 7th, going to stay in Brasília — it is estimated — until November 20th?", he added.
"Can these visits be publicized, disclosed, in other words, are they within the bounds of republican principles?" he asked. "When Cunha arrived in Brasília on September 15th, his hearing was postponed several times by the 10th Federal Criminal Court," Kokay recalled.
"These are questions that need to be answered for the good of the Republic and democracy," he stated, adding that he will forward a request for clarification to the Judiciary and the Government of the Federal District itself so that they can clarify the facts, because there are different conditions for Eduardo Cunha at this moment.
"Is Eduardo Cunha here in the DPE's premises using this position to orchestrate and weave the tentacles that cause hemorrhagic corruption in this country?", the congresswoman inquired.
The former congressman has been in Brasília since September 15th of this year, when he came from Curitiba to testify about the embezzlement of money from the Caixa Econômica Federal Investment Fund (FI-FGTS), in a criminal case initiated within the scope of Operation Sépsis, launched on July 1st, 2016 by the Federal Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Pernambuco and the Federal District as an offshoot of Operation Lava Jato.
According to information released by the press, Cunha would remain in Brasília only until the end of the in-person interrogations in the Operation's criminal proceedings. However, federal judge Vallisney de Souza granted a request from the defense to postpone Cunha's return to the Medical-Penal Complex in Pinhais (PR), where he was being held.
According to the magistrate's decision, the Federal Police (PF) must arrange for Cunha's return to Curitiba between November 20 and 24, when the deadline for the defense's final arguments in the Sépsis case expires.
