Bolsonaro's defense team asks Moraes for authorization for continuous visits from a PL politician.
Lawyers mentioned the relationship between the vice-president of the PL-RO party and the family of the former president.
247 - Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) defense team has asked the Supreme Federal Court to have Minister Alexandre de Moraes authorize continuous visits by the state vice-president of the Liberal Party (PL) in Rondônia, Bruno Scheid, to the former head of the Executive's residence in Brasília (DF). The information was published this Friday (5) by newspaper The State of S.Paulo.
According to the court documents, lawyers Celso Vilardi, Paulo Amador da Cunha Bueno, and Daniel Bettamio Tesser stated that the vice-president of the PL-RO not only plays an important role in the party, but also maintains a "close friendship" with Bolsonaro and his family.
"Mr. Bruno Scheid, in addition to his political position, maintains a close friendship with the Petitioner and his family, a circumstance that led him to provide continuous support even before the current health situation. This personal and family bond reinforces the relevance of his presence at the residence, especially given the impossibility of the Petitioner's wife fully reconciling her work activity with the required care," argued Bolsonaro's lawyers.
Bolsonaro is serving house arrest in Brasília as part of precautionary measures due to the risk of fleeing abroad and obstructing the judicial investigation into the coup plot. The former president is a defendant in the inquiry conducted by the Supreme Federal Court. Added together, the sentences exceed 40 years in prison if he is convicted. The trial began last Tuesday (2).
In addition to facing criminal charges in the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for the coup plot, Bolsonaro was indicted by the Federal Police for obstructing investigations into the attempted coup. Another person indicted was Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP).
Investigators identified obstruction due to the Bolsonaro family's coordination with the Donald Trump administration to impose sanctions on Brazil because of the investigation into the coup plot. The US president's administration imposed a 50% tariff on Brazilian exports to the United States and suspended visas for Supreme Court justices to travel to the United States.
