Cunha wants to remove the Attorney General's Office from defending the Chamber of Deputies.

In another chapter of the clash with the government, the Speaker of the House said he will break the agreement that gives the Attorney General's Office the power to defend the House in legal actions; the decision comes after the institution headed by Luís Inácio Adams asked the Supreme Court to annul the approval of the accounts of three former presidents, voted on last week; "When the issue is in the government's interest, such as sponsoring Rose on behalf of the government, the Attorney General's Office does it in 24 hours. Brasilia 247 - The Speaker of the House, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB), announced this Monday, the 10th, that he will break the agreement between the House and the Attorney General's Office that gives the AGU the responsibility of defending the House in lawsuits.

"The Attorney General's Office, under government control, has lost credibility to provide institutional legal representation to the other branches of government, as is customary. I will terminate the agreement and remove the Attorney General's Office from defending the Chamber of Deputies," said Cunha.

The decision comes after the Attorney General's Office (AGU) asked the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to annul the approval of the accounts of three former presidents, voted on last week by the Chamber of Deputies. The request was made by Senator Rose de Freitas (PMDB-ES), who is represented in the action by an Attorney General of the Union.

Furthermore, Cunha became irritated this Sunday, the 9th, for not being notified in advance of the Attorney General's Office's entry into the Supreme Court to annul evidence against him in the Chamber in May.

"We really asked for a reaction when the incident happened at the beginning of May. But it took him three months to do this? He did it on Friday, to embarrass me, without the Chamber's lawyers even reading it," said Cunha.

According to him, the request should have been made in May, when, with the authorization of Supreme Court Justice Teori Zavascki, rapporteur for Lava Jato, prosecutors went to the House's computer system and made copies of the material, but did not seize or take anything from the premises.

"But when it comes to the government's interests, like sponsoring Rose on behalf of the government, the Attorney General's Office does it in 24 hours. They want to present themselves as state lawyers and end up acting as government lawyers," he attacked.

If the agreement with the Attorney General's Office is broken, the Chamber will have to hire law firms to handle labor lawsuits in the states, since it does not have the internal structure to monitor legal proceedings.
