Cunha: search demonstrates Janot's desperation.

“It’s an attempt to find evidence to justify something that didn’t happen. These are circumstances that show the prosecutor’s desperation to try to find something that could incriminate me,” said the Speaker of the House, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ), regarding the action led by the Attorney General of the Republic, Rodrigo Janot; “What was done here was absolutely unnecessary; it would have been enough to send an official letter and we would have granted access,” concluded Cunha.

247 – The Speaker of the House, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ), once again criticized the Attorney General of the Republic, Rodrigo Janot. This time, he pointed to Janot's "desperation" after a search and seizure operation in his office:

"It's an attempt to find evidence to justify something that didn't happen. These are circumstances that show the prosecutor's desperation to find something that could incriminate me," he said.

Justice Teori Zavascki, the rapporteur for the Lava Jato case at the Supreme Federal Court (STF), authorized a search warrant at the House at Janot's request.

“I respond to any content that is brought to my attention, and indeed, the Attorney General of the Republic chose to investigate me. And there is a personal dispute. There is no doubt about that,” stated Eduardo Cunha, when questioned whether he interpreted the fact as an “affront” to the independence of the Legislative branch.

"What was done here was absolutely unnecessary; all they had to do was send an official letter and we would have granted access. Coming here to get it, in that way; all they had to do was send an official letter," Cunha concluded.
