Chamber of Deputies' Ombudsman requests suspension of 3 deputies involved in riot

It will be up to the Board of Directors, chaired by Hugo Motta, to decide whether the cases will be dismissed or referred to the Ethics Committee.

Brazil Agency - A the Chamber of Deputies' ombudsman's office recommended this Friday (19) the suspension of the mandates of three deputies and the application of written censure to 14 opposition parliamentarians that participated in the riot in the House plenary., at the beginning of last month.

Upon completing the analysis of the representations filed against the parliamentarians, the House's ombudsman, deputy Diego Coronel (PSD-BA), suggested to the Chamber's Ethics Council that suspension of deputy Marcos Pollon (PL-MS) for 90 days and deputies Marcel Van Hattem (Novo-RS) and Zé Trovão (PL-SC) for 30 days.

All are accused of obstructing the Presidency.

Pollon is also the target of another 30-day suspension request, bringing his total to 120 days. The congressman was accused of making defamatory statements against the House Speaker.

The inspector also defended the application of the written censure penalty to the deputies Allan Garcês (PP-MA), Bia Kicis (PL-DF), Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ), Caroline de Toni (PL-SC), Domingos Sávio (PL-MG), Julia Zanatta (PL-SC), Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), Paulo Bilynskyj (PL-SP), Marco Feliciano (PL-SP), Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ) and Zucco (PL-RS), in addition to Pollon, Van Hattem and Zé Trovão.

According to Diego Coronel, the requests for punishment were made based on an analysis of internal images from the Chamber and arguments from the parliamentarians' defenses.

"The role of the ombudsman's office is institutional. We act impartially, analyzing each conduct individually, and fulfilling our commitment to expediency, delivering our report within 22 business days of the complaint, or half the deadline. Now, it is up to the Board to decide on the recommendations presented," the ombudsman stated.

According to the Chamber's internal rules, the requests for suspension of mandates will be analyzed by the Ethics Council and the plenary. application of written censorship will be evaluated by the Board of Directors of the House.

Upon arriving in the Chamber's plenary session, the Speaker of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), had difficulty taking his seat on the Board of Directors, prevented by some parliamentarians, especially deputies Marcel van Hattem (Novo-RS) and Marcos Pollon (PL-MS). 

The senators and representatives spent the night at the location, making legislative work impossible. They also demanded that proposals for a general and unrestricted amnesty for those convicted of attempted coup d'état be put on the agenda during the trial of the coup plot and the... impeachment of Moraes.

On August 6th, around 22:30 PM, Hugo Motta opened the plenary session after a long period of obstruction. by opposition parliamentarians. Motta criticized the deputies' actions and said that demonstrations must obey the House rules.
