Embarrassed, Temer attends parade without sash and in a closed car.
Michel Temer attended the Independence Day parade in Brasília accompanied by his wife Marcela Temer and son Michelzinho; cornered by the prospect of a new indictment being filed against him by the Attorney General's Office, Temer arrived at the event in a closed car and without displaying the presidential sash, unlike his predecessors; as in previous years, security barred entry to people with large banners, posters, and flags to prevent protests.
Brasilia 247 - Michel Temer attended the Independence Day parade in Brasília accompanied by his wife Marcela Temer and son Michelzinho. Faced with the prospect of a new indictment against him for obstruction of justice and criminal organization being filed by the Attorney General's Office, Temer arrived at the event in a closed car and without the presidential sash, unlike his predecessors. Normally, presidents participate in the Independence Day parade aboard a 1953 Rolls Royce convertible presidential car.
Last year, still in his first week as head of the Executive branch, Temer was booed and called a "coup plotter." The parade takes place on the same day that executives and directors of JBS are scheduled to testify to clarify the recording that threatens the plea bargain that served as the basis for the first accusation against the PMDB member and which ended up being dismissed by the Chamber of Deputies.
According to the Presidency, the expectation was that up to 30 people would attend the parade, however many grandstands were not occupied. Security barred people carrying large banners, posters, and flags, or flags with poles. The same security procedure was adopted in last year's parade.
