Trade in the Federal District (Brasília) grew 5,88% in March.
Fecomrcio shows that the commerce and services sectors performed differently last month; while commerce grew, the services sector experienced a decline of 8,44%.
Brasilia 247 – The economic survey of Micro and Small Businesses, released by the Fecomércio Institute, shows a huge difference between the commerce and services sectors in the Federal District last month.
The retail sector recorded a 5,88% increase in sales compared to February. The service sector, however, showed an 8,44% decrease in March compared to the previous month.
According to Adelmir Santana, president of the Fecomércio-DF System, the performance of the retail sector can be considered normal for this month. However, the drop in sales in the service sector is related to seasonal effects. "The significant drop in the service sector can be attributed to the end of the holiday season and, consequently, the reduction in sales in the tourism segment becomes inevitable," Santana assesses.
The most significant increases in trade were observed in the segments of Auto Parts and Accessories (16,33%), Floriculture (13,64%), Textiles (12,56%) and Household Goods (11,92%).
In the service sector, the largest increases were recorded in the Beauty Salon (10,36%) and Pet Shop (8,66%) segments. The survey consulted 600 companies, 527 from the retail sector and 73 from the service sector.
