Water intake tests begin at Paranoá.
The Water and Sanitation Company of the Federal District (Caesb) has begun conducting water intake tests in the North Lake Production Subsystem to further accelerate the work and begin operations as planned; the investment totaled R$ 42 million, 15% below the initial estimate of R$ 49,4 million; the Ministry of National Integration released R$ 55 million for the works, the difference will be returned to the federal ministry.
Brasilia 247 - The Water and Sanitation Company of the Federal District (Caesb) began, on Monday (11), to carry out intake tests in the North Lake Production Subsystem to further accelerate the work and start the operation as planned. The investment was R$ 42 million, 15% below the initially estimated amount — R$ 49.437.958. The Ministry of National Integration released R$ 55 million for the works — the difference returns to the federal ministry.
The governor of Brasília, Rodrigo Rollemberg, visited the site on Thursday morning. “It’s exciting to see the water flowing and passing all the tests. In the first week of October, this treatment plant will be fully operational to help the water supply system of the Federal District,” he said.
The tests are being conducted by the company carrying out the works, Enfil SA Controle Ambiental. They consist of leak checks, structural checks, equipment performance tests, among others. The interventions are 80% complete and are scheduled for delivery on October 2nd.
After the handover, there will be three months of assisted operation, that is, in partnership between Caesb and Enfil. After that date, Caesb will take over management.
The governor was accompanied on the visit by the presidents of Caesb, Maurício Luduvice; and of the Regulatory Agency for Water, Energy and Basic Sanitation of the Federal District, Paulo Salles.
What are the ongoing and planned projects at Lake Paranoá?
700 liters of water per second will be collected from the Torto arm of Lake Paranoá. The structure is located in ML 4, in the Lago Norte Mansions Sector. It is a compact water treatment plant, using ultrafiltration membranes, one of the most modern technologies.
Then, the water goes to two reservoirs: one in Lago Norte and one in Paranoá. The areas supplied will be Asa Norte, Itapoã, Lago Norte, Paranoá, part of Sobradinho II and Taquari. The supply to these regions is provided by the Santa Maria-Torto Production System.

Caesb also has a project, already tendered, to permanently capture, store, treat, and distribute water from Lake Paranoá. The works are budgeted at R$ 480 million — the government of Brasília is negotiating financing with Caixa Econômica Federal.
The Paranoá Water Production System will serve 600 people in Paranoá, Lago Oeste, Tororó, Sobradinho, and the Jardim ABC, Jardim Botânico, and Alphaville residential areas.
Progress of the works in Bananal
With delivery also scheduled for October, the Bananal Production Subsystem project is 67% complete. Pumping station 1 and the water intake are finished, and pumping station 2 is in the final stages of completion. All equipment and materials have already been purchased and are on site.
The Bananal project represents an increase of 726 liters per second for the Santa Maria-Torto Water Production System. The investment is R$ 20 million, from the Constitutional Financing Fund of the Central-West region, Banco do Brasil.
Approximately 170 people will benefit from the interventions, which include water intake from the Bananal Stream and pumping to the Brasília Water Treatment Plant.
Resumption of work on Lake Corumbá 4
The largest water intake project for the Federal District is the result of a consortium between Caesb and Saneamento de Goiás SA (Saneago). In the neighboring state, the work was suspended for a time due to suspected overpricing, but it resumed at the beginning of this month.
The portion of the project in Goiás consists of constructing the intake structure, the pumping station (which are 60% complete), and 12,7 kilometers of pipeline — 97% complete.
The Federal District is responsible for the remaining 15,3 kilometers of pipeline, which began in August, and the construction of the Water Treatment Plant in Valparaíso (GO), which is almost complete. The work is 68% finished.
The budget is R$ 540 million, half for each state. The amount of water collected is also divided equally between the Federal District and Goiás: 1,4 liters per second for each in the first delivery, scheduled for December 2018, and 2,8 liters per second subsequently.
Small water intake projects in the Federal District
At the end of March, Caesb reactivated the water intake on the Alagado River in Gama. It delivers 20 liters per second, benefiting approximately 16,000 people in the region. Four kilometers of the pipeline were repaired and a pressure-reducing valve was installed. The extracted water undergoes simplified treatment and is then sent to the distribution network.
Also in Gama, around 15 residents have been supplied by the Crispim Stream since November 2016. 40 liters per second have been collected since the reactivation of 3 kilometers of pipeline and the construction of an additional 180 meters of network. The water is treated and sent to the Gama Reservoir.
Near the Botanical Garden and in Lago Sul, the intake from the Cabeça de Veado stream—which flows into Lake Paranoá and supplements the water supply in both administrative regions—was improved. Four pumps for this purpose were revitalized. This made it possible to increase the intake flow from the stream from 110 liters to 150 liters per second.
Another measure was the activation of a well in São Sebastião, with a production capacity of 10 liters of water per second. The structure benefits approximately 4 people.
