One month late, the Federal District inaugurates the Integrated Electronic Monitoring Center.

The agency aims to monitor semi-open regime prisoners wearing electronic ankle bracelets 24 hours a day; initially, 175 people will be monitored at the center, according to information from the Sub-Secretariat of the Penitentiary System; the service was promised for August; the government reported that the contract provides for the monitoring of 6 prisoners as the courts authorize the use of the equipment; but the company stated that so far only money has been allocated for 175.

Brasilia 247 - A month late, the Federal District government inaugurated this Monday (4) the Integrated Electronic Monitoring Center (Cime), to monitor semi-open regime prisoners who use electronic ankle bracelets 24 hours a day. Initially, 175 people will be monitored at the center, according to information from the Penitentiary System Subsecretariat. The service was promised for August. The government reported that the contract provides for the monitoring of 6 prisoners as the Justice authorizes the use of the equipment. But the company stated that so far only money has been made available for 175.

"This technological solution will bring benefits to the prison system. It's a system that allows us to access a range of information and have complete control over the inmates," said the Secretary of Public Security, Edval Novaes. This information comes from G1.

The equipment will be installed on inmates at two locations: the sub-secretariat in SIA, and the Department of Specialized Police (DPE) of the Civil Police of the Federal District, in the Graphic Sector.

'Suitcase Deputy'

Due to a lack of electronic ankle monitors in the Federal District, former aide to Michel Temer and former federal deputy Rodrigo Rocha Loures (PMDB-PR) was taken to Goiás for the installation of the device. In June, he was released by the Supreme Federal Court (STF).

Loures had been arrested after being caught receiving a suitcase containing R$ 500.
