Reguffe, at times criticized for not attending some debates, faced a strong offensive from his opponents, who adopted the strategy of deconstructing the "good guy" image of the federal deputy. Magela, a strong figure in the PT and in the administration of Governor Agnelo Queiroz (PT), Reguffe's main opponent, invested a large part of his TV time in attacks on the PDT candidate, which ultimately had no effect. Argello, currently a senator for the Federal District and a member of the coalition of Jofran Frejat, the PR candidate for governor of the Federal District, did not achieve re-election.
José Antônio Machado Reguffe was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1972. He holds degrees in journalism from the Instituto de Educação Superior de Brasília (Iesb) and in economics from the Universidade de Brasília (UnB). At 42 years old, he is the youngest representative of the Federal District in the Senate.
In 2005, he joined the PDT, beginning his political career. The following year, he was elected district deputy. In 2010, Reguffe was elected federal deputy. On that occasion, he received 266.465 votes, equivalent to 18,96% of the total votes in the Federal District, becoming the candidate with the highest percentage of votes in a federative unit in the country.
In the Chamber, Reguffe became known for forgoing the 14th and 15th salaries allocated to parliamentarians. He also refused to receive 80% of the office allowance to which he is entitled. Instead of 25 parliamentary advisors, he asked the House's general directorate to work with only 9 assistants, contradicting his parliamentary colleagues and sometimes generating criticism regarding his attitude. The fact is that these initiatives resonated with the population, becoming the main attractive features cited by voters about the candidate.
