Brasilia 247 - The Speaker of the House, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), has not scheduled any voting sessions in the House plenary for the entire next week, due to the Republic Proclamation holiday, celebrated on Wednesday, November 15th.
Maia gave lawmakers a break even as negotiations resumed for the pension reform vote and at least eight provisional measures (MPs) were nearing their expiration date.
The Speaker of the House stated that the week without votes will not leave a bad impression on society, because the Chamber compensated for the break with votes from last Monday until this Friday, with an agenda focused on public safety. "Unfortunately, next week's holiday is on Wednesday," he said, arguing that the round-trip travel of parliamentarians would cause "unnecessary expense."
Officially, Maia scheduled a session for this Friday to vote on legislative decree projects of little relevance. However, many parliamentarians left Brasília for their states on Thursday. Maia promised to deduct the absences from the salaries of those who were absent. The deputies only need to return to Brasília on November 21st, a Tuesday, when the next plenary session is scheduled.
