247 - The governor of the Federal District, Ibaneis Rocha, has offered Brasília to the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) as an alternative venue for the 2025 Libertadores final, scheduled for November 29th.

The information was published by the portal Metropoliswhich revealed that the governor sent official letters to the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, and to the president of the CBF, Samir Xaud, highlighting that the Arena BRB Mané Garrincha is fully prepared to host the event.

Instability in Lima motivates decision.

The proposal from the Federal District Government (GDF) comes after the Peruvian government declared a state of emergency in Lima, the city that was originally scheduled to host the Libertadores final. The measure was taken due to increased violence, protests, and political instability, factors that compromise the security of the sporting event.

In the document sent to the sports organizations, Ibaneis highlighted the size of the arena in the federal capital. "It is the second largest stadium in Brazil, with a capacity of 72.851 spectators, and therefore has the capacity to host this important sporting event," stated the governor.

Security and infrastructure

The local Chief Executive emphasized that Brasília offers complete security and high-standard infrastructure for the match. He highlighted the maintenance of the pitch, the support of public security forces, and the strategic location of the arena, close to hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, parks, and civic buildings. The stadium also has easy access via the airport, bus station, public transportation, and bike paths.

Ibaneis also recalled that the federal capital has accumulated experience in major international competitions, such as the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the 2016 Olympic Games, the Copa América, the Brazilian Super Cup, and matches of the Brazilian National Team. "Because of these and other attributes, I am confident that holding the Conmebol Libertadores final match in Brasília on November 29th will be another successful partnership for the benefit of world football," he concluded.

Road to the final

The 2025 Copa Libertadores is in the semi-final stage, with matches between Flamengo and Racing of Argentina, and LDU of Ecuador against Palmeiras. The winners will decide the champion in a single match — which, if it depends on the initiative of the Federal District government, could take place in the capital of Brazil.
