Boulos informs allies that he will join Lula's government.
A member of parliament from the PSOL party signaled his acceptance of the invitation to become the Secretary-General of the Presidency and defended the party's participation in the administration.
247 - Considered a candidate to assume the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL-SP) has informed close allies that he intends to join the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. This information was published by... column by Igor Gadelha, from the portal Metropolis.
According to the report, Boulos met in São Paulo with members of Revolução Solidária, an internal PSOL group to which he is affiliated, and revealed the possibility of taking over the position currently held by Márcio Macêdo (PT-SE). During the meeting, the congressman made it clear that, despite resistance from sectors of the party, he considers it inconsistent for PSOL to compete for political protagonism on the left and, at the same time, refuse to lead a ministry in the federal government.
"PSOL cannot claim to be fighting for the left while simultaneously refusing to lead a ministry in the government," Boulos said, according to sources consulted by this column.
The congressman's press office was contacted by Metrópoles, but did not respond by the time of publication. The space remains open for official statements.
Lula and the strategy of rapprochement with Boulos
According to Metrópoles, Lula has once again discussed internally the presence of Boulos in his administration. The president has emphasized the importance of the congressman not only as a key ally on the left, but also as a leader capable of mobilizing large popular demonstrations.
One of the examples cited by aides at the Presidential Palace is the recent event organized by Boulos on Paulista Avenue against the so-called "Proposed Amendment to the Constitution regarding protection," a measure criticized by social movements and sectors of the opposition for attempting to reduce the accountability of authorities. The visibility gained by the congressman reinforced the assessment that his entry into the government would broaden the dialogue with progressive sectors and urban social movements.
Boulos' political weight
Boulos' potential appointment to the General Secretariat would have a strong symbolic and political impact. The position is strategic because it is directly linked to the Presidential Palace, responsible for coordinating social movements, unions, and civil society organizations with the federal government.
Furthermore, the presence of a figure with significant political and electoral capital in São Paulo could strengthen Lula's support base in the country's largest electoral district. For PSOL, participation in the administration would represent a step forward in its consolidation as a party of national relevance, even if it causes internal tensions between factions that advocate for total independence from the PT government.
