247 - The president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Luís Roberto Barroso, defended limiting excessive salaries and reported that he has already spoken with the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), with the aim of approving the bill that addresses the issue.

"Perks" are additional payments, beyond the salary, such as compensation and allowances, received by public servants, such as judges and members of the Public Prosecutor's Office. There are cases in which these amounts are not considered part of the main remuneration and, consequently, may exceed the constitutional salary ceiling for public servants, which is the salary of a Supreme Court Justice, currently at R$ 46.366,19.

"I am totally in favor of limiting what are called compensations for judges in general, which is what we call 'extra-ceiling' payments, which is under discussion in the Senate. I myself have already spoken with President Alcolumbre and said it would be very good to approve it," the magistrate told [the newspaper]. C-Level Interview, Folha's new weekly videocast.

According to the minister, there are justifiable extras in judges' salaries. Barroso stated that members of Congress need to specify which allowances can legitimately exceed the salary cap and eliminate undue perks. "I am totally in favor of this limitation [of perks]," he said.
