"Some carried out the crimes, others financed them, but it doesn't matter: everyone needs to be punished," says Gilmar Mendes.
"The greatest responsibility, however, will fall on the authorities who failed to act," said the Supreme Court Justice regarding the attempted coup in Brasília.
247 - Supreme Court Justice Gilmar Mendes condemned the acts of vandalism carried out by Bolsonaro coup plotters this Sunday (8) in Brasília. On his Twitter account, the minister said that all those involved must be punished for the attacks on democracy.
"Today, a complex criminal plan to violently abolish the Democratic Rule of Law was carried out. Some executed it, others financed it, but it doesn't matter: all must be punished. The greatest responsibility, however, will fall on the authorities who were negligent."
In a statement released to the press, Mendes said that "the execution of this criminal plan to depose the constituted government, to abolish, through violence, the Democratic Rule of Law, did not arise by abiogenesis. It is a communion of criminal efforts: some executed it, many others financed it, planned it, encouraged it. If some acted, many others helped through omission," the statement emphasizes.
