Alexandre de Moraes defends Luis Felipe Salomão for Lewandowski's seat on the Supreme Court.
STJ minister is the "most prepared" to join the Supreme Court, argues Moraes.
247 - Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has made it clear behind the scenes that his favorite to fill the vacancy that will be left by his colleague Ricardo Lewandowski on the Court is Luis Felipe Salomão, a Justice of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ).
According to Bela Megale, from the newspaper The GlobeSupreme Court justices say Moraes sees Salomão as the "most prepared" to take over the seat of Lewandowski, who is retiring in May.
Moraes and Salomão became close during the years they served as colleagues at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
"Currently, Salomão is the National Inspector General of Justice for the 2022-2024 term. He stands out as one of the main figures in the judiciary and has good relations with politicians. The magistrate demonstrated his strength last year when he managed to place his candidate, Judge Messod Azulay, from the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region (TRF-2), as the most voted in the shortlist of four to join the Superior Court of Justice (STJ). In November, then-President Bolsonaro appointed Azulay to the court," explains the journalist.
Salomão, however, is not a consensus choice within the Supreme Court. Ministers are advocating for other names.
