Alckmin on Francisco Cuoco: 'He spread our culture around the world with memorable films, soap operas and plays'
'He leaves behind an extensive legacy,' the vice president stated after the actor's passing.
247 - Vice-President of the Republic, the Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, paid tribute to actor Francisco Cuoco this Thursday (19).
"Francisco Cuoco was one of the greatest artists of TV, film and theater in Brazil. Acting in memorable films, soap operas and plays, he portrayed charismatic characters and helped spread our culture to the world. May his extensive legacy be an inspiration for new generations of Brazilian actors and actresses," Alckmin posted on the social network X.
Cuoco's first appearance in a telenovela was on TV Record, in Marcados pelo Amor, in 1964. Following that, in 1966, she acted in Redenção, on TV Excelsior. On the same channel, in 1968, she was in Legião dos Esquecidos.
Starting in 1970, Cuoco began acting in TV Globo productions. First, in "Assim na Terra Como no Céu" (As on Earth as in Heaven), where he played a priest. Other highlights included "Selva de Pedra" (Stone Jungle) in 1972, "O Semideus" (The Demigod) in 1973, and "Cuca Legal" in 1975.
One of the actor's greatest career successes was the taxi driver Carlão, a character he played in Pecado Capital, also in 1975. Between the 1990s and 2000s, he acted more in film productions. This list included Traição (1998), Gêmeas (1999), Um Anjo Trapalhão (2000), A Partilha (2001), and Cafundó (2005).
The actor's wake will be held on Friday (20), from 7 am to 15 pm, at Funeral Home, at Rua São Carlos do Pinhal, 376, in Bela Vista, in the capital of São Paulo (with information from Abr).
