Aécio Neves, from the PSDB party, admitted he would nominate someone from the Northeast region of Brazil to the Supreme Court, to fill the vacancy left by Joaquim Barbosa, should he win the election and a replacement not yet chosen. The PT party nominated individuals from Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Rio Grande do Sul, and only one from the Northeast, who is already retired: Carlos Ayres Britto from Sergipe.
