15 times less than what is needed at JK Airport
This is the proportion of Federal Police agents at the Immigration Police station at the Brasília terminal; during the standard operation, launched this Thursday (19), the category worked with the ideal number of 60 people.
Brasília 247 – Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport has only four Federal Police (PF) agents stationed at the Immigration Police station (Delemig). For the Federal Police Union of the Federal District (Sindipol/DF), the ideal would be 60 professionals. As a protest, this Thursday (19), the category carried out a standard operation at the airport. The movement took place in practically all terminals in the country.
In total, approximately 170 Federal Police officers participated in the movement. While 60 federal police officers who were off-duty or working in the Chemical Products Control, Narcotics Repression, Tax Police, and Central Canine Unit inspection groups were involved in passenger control and inspection, about 110 were mobilized in the upper departure lounge. "This would be the ideal number of officers for the Federal Police to function efficiently at an international airport of our size here in Brasília," emphasizes the president of Sindipol/DF, Jones Borges Leal.
Sindipol/DF states that the operation was necessary to draw the attention of society and the government to the fragility of security in strategic locations such as national ports and airports.
At the request of Sindipol/DF, Father Marcos and Pastor Jânio de Oliveira celebrated an ecumenical service in memory of the residents of Brasília who died as victims of firearms that entered the Federal District illegally. According to statistics from the Public Security Secretariat, 88 residents of the Federal District lost their lives in March 2012, victims of gunshot wounds and involvement with drugs. The celebrants drew attention to the fact that neither the weapons nor the drugs are manufactured in the Federal District, and are therefore products that entered through the borders without proper control by the authorities.
Currently, the Federal Police has only 13 employees, including police officers and administrative staff, to control and monitor more than 16 kilometers of borders and police ports and airports, in addition to other functional activities such as investigations and passport issuance.
On April 24th and 25th, the category will hold a federal assembly to assess the impacts of Operation Standard.
