Government launches public consultation on new National Drug Policy Plan.
Contributions from the public will be accepted until May 15th.
247 - Starting this Thursday (6), the federal government begins the virtual public consultation for the new National Drug Policy Plan (Planad). The consultation, which runs until May 15, was established through a resolution of the National Drug Policy Council (Conad) and aims to allow broad participation of society in the construction of the new plan. The resolution was published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) on February 28.
The proposal is that experts, civil society organizations, social movements, councils, and other interested parties can contribute their suggestions to the formulation of a more democratic and effective plan. The head of the National Secretariat for Drug Policies and Asset Management (Senad), Marta Machado, emphasized the importance of this process in ensuring the inclusion of diverse voices in the construction of the guidelines for national drug policy. "This is a democratic tool and an affirmation of popular sovereignty, seeking to build elements to organize the new National Drug Policy," she stated.
The goal of the new plan is to guide and organize the implementation of drug policy in Brazil, with clear goals and priority actions. The proposal also seeks to promote an intersectoral approach, involving areas such as health, education, social assistance, public security, and civil society. Michel Marques, advisor and coordinator of the Drug Policy Commission of CONAD (National Anti-Drug Council), highlighted that the consultation will allow public policies to be aligned with the reality of the territories and populations most affected. "In addition to prioritizing democracy, this process ensures that the people most impacted by drug policy are heard," he stated.
The contributions will be systematized by the Executive Secretariat of CONAD, which will prepare a final report to be sent to the council's plenary for analysis and deliberation. CONAD is responsible for defining the general guidelines of the National Drug Policy and is currently served by SENAD, which is linked to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP).
To participate, those interested should access the Participa +Brasil platform or the Conad page on the MJSP portal. After registering on the platform, participants will be able to answer questions and submit their contributions.
