Marina's victory: PSB will launch a candidate in São Paulo.
The party led by the governor of Pernambuco and pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, Eduardo Campos, sent a message to the Palácio dos Bandeirantes (São Paulo state government headquarters) this Friday: it will not support the re-election candidacy of Governor Geraldo Alckmin, of the PSDB party, and will launch its own candidate in the state; according to the PSB, this does not mean a break with the PSDB, which could still be an ally in the second round; the decision shows the strength of Marina Silva, who vetoed support for Alckmin, within the PSB; the choice of candidate is expected to open an internal dispute within the party.
247 - The PSB sent a message to the governor of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB), this Friday the 17th: it will not support his candidacy for re-election this year and should even launch its own candidate in the state. The information reached the governor through an ally of the governor of Pernambuco and president of the party, presidential candidate Eduardo Campos.
The decision confirms the influence of former senator Marina Silva within the party, since she was vehemently against sharing a platform with Alckmin in the elections. For her, the PSB's support for the São Paulo governor was contradictory. Marina also argues that the party should have its own candidates in states considered priorities by the party, such as São Paulo and Rio.
The choice of a name now is expected to open an internal dispute within the PSB. The president of the São Paulo state branch, Congressman Márcio França, is one of those who will enter the race. A defender of the alliance with Alckmin, França hoped to win the vice-presidential slot on the PSDB ticket. He even stated that it made no sense to yield to Marina's preference and distance himself from Alckmin, a more consolidated candidacy, in exchange for something uncertain.
The former senator initially defended the name of federal deputy Luiza Erundina, who has already ruled out any possibility of running. Other names preferred by Marina are those of deputy Walter Feldman, her ally in the creation of the Rede Sustentabilidade party, and city councilman Ricardo Young, from the PPS party.
