Valdemar Costa Neto recovers passport after Supreme Court lifts travel restrictions.
Minister Alexandre de Moraes revoked measures that prevented the president of the PL party from leaving the country, in a decision made two weeks ago.
247 - The president of the Liberal Party (PL), Valdemar Costa Neto, had his passport returned by the Federal Police (PF) after a decision by the Supreme Federal Court (STF), as the corporation informed the court this Wednesday (26). The document, which had been seized, had its validity reactivated, highlights a report by The GlobeThe measure follows the decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who two weeks ago overturned restrictions imposed on Valdemar in an investigation into an alleged attempted coup d'état.
The politician's defense had requested a review of the measures after he was not included in the indictment presented by the Attorney General's Office (PGR) last month. Valdemar was indicted by the Federal Police in 2023 in the investigation into the alleged coup plot, but was ultimately excluded from the criminal proceedings.
"The minister accepted our request, understanding that there was no longer any basis for maintaining the restrictions," said one of Valdemar's lawyers, referring to Moraes' decision. Among the revoked measures were the prohibition on leaving the country and maintaining contact with other individuals under investigation, such as former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
The restrictions had been imposed in February 2024, following a Federal Police operation related to the case. Despite the passport being released, the proceedings against others involved are still ongoing at the Supreme Federal Court.
