Valadares denies running for president of the Senate.

Speaking to 247, Senator Antônio Carlos Valadares (PSB-SE) denied reports that he might run as the sole alternative candidate against Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), replacing Pedro Taques (PDT-MT) and Randolfe Rodrigues (PSOL-AP). "That's unfounded. The candidate is Pedro Taques. The PSB is finalizing an agreement to support him," he said.

Valter Lima _special for 247 - Information from Felipe Patury's column on the Época magazine website this afternoon indicated the possibility of Senator Antônio Carlos Valadares (PSB-SE) launching a candidacy for the presidency of the Senate, which would unify the parliamentarians of the independent bloc, which has two names as possible candidates: Pedro Taques (PDT-MT) and Randolfe Rodrigues (PSOL-AP).read).

However, in a conversation with 247 a short while ago, Senator Valadares denied the news. "It's unfounded. The candidate is Pedro Taques. The PSB is finalizing an agreement to support him. This information is speculation, as we haven't even discussed this within the party," he stated. The main candidate for president of the Senate is Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), who has the Federal Government on his side, but who lost the support of the PSB yesterday.

Read Felipe Patury's note.:

"The so-called independent senators are currently meeting to discuss a more effective strategy to contest the presidency of the Senate against Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL). Randolfe Rodrigues (PSOL-AP), Pedro Taques (PDT-MT), Jarbas Vasconcelos (PMDB-PE), and Pedro Simon (PMDB-RS) are debating with the PSB caucus, composed of four senators, the possibility of launching Antônio Carlos Valadares' candidacy for president (PSB-SE). A former governor of Sergipe, Valadares is more experienced than Randolfe and Taques. Both are also vying for the position, but are considering withdrawing their candidacies to support Valadares. He has good references: he chaired the commission that revoked Demóstenes' mandate and has the respect of his peers."
