Go for it, Danrlei!
A congressman and former Grêmio goalkeeper, who was previously with the PTB party, was the first to join Kassab's PSD party after the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) approved its creation and will lead the new party in Rio Grande do Sul. Six more congressmen are expected to join the PSD in the coming days.
Former Grêmio goalkeeper and federal deputy Danrlei de Deus (RS) was one of the deputies to join the PSD after the party obtained its registration with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). He attended the party's Executive meeting earlier today and said he changed parties to have more independence. The parliamentarian is leaving the PTB.
"What led me to change was mainly the possibility of having independence and an active voice in decisions. The possibility of the party giving you the freedom to vote yes or no according to your own judgment is important," said the congressman.
Danrlei will lead the new party in Rio Grande do Sul. He states that he will seek "new people" in politics to strengthen the PSD. "The party is focused on working towards a new kind of politics. As I am new to politics, I have this desire to do things differently," he declared.
The former goalkeeper complained that within the PTB party he didn't have much opportunity to express his opinions, especially regarding Rio Grande do Sul, where the party supports Governor Tarso Genro (PT). "The PTB is more closed off. In my case, as a new member of parliament, they said things were a certain way and that was it. I didn't have much participation, even more so regionally than here in Brasília," he explained.
The PSD's main leader is the mayor of São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab. The expectation is that within the next 30 days the party will surpass 50 representatives and establish itself as the third largest force in the Chamber of Deputies.
Anyone
Kassab stated this Wednesday that the new party is "plural" and open to alliances. The party obtained its registration from the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) yesterday and already held its Executive meeting this morning. "We are open to alliances with anyone. What will guide our alliances are our principles and our conduct," said Kassab.
He stated that a party's objective is always to reach power, but affirmed that alliances are "natural and necessary." The party stipulated that a member of parliament can only sign a request for a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) if there is a resolution from the party caucus.
According to Kassab, around 80 federal deputies participated in talks with the PSD, and approximately 50 are expected to join the new party. In the Senate, in addition to Kátia Abreu (TO) and Sérgio Petecão (AC), the party expects more members. Those who hold office and wish to join the PSD without risking losing it must do so within 30 days. For those wishing to run for election, however, the deadline is October 7th.
