Marcos do Val's alternate, who could assume the mandate, was chosen "at random".
Rosana Foerst volunteered to assume the mandate. "She was there at the time and made herself available to help," says the newspaper.
247 - The first alternate senator for Marcos do Val (Podemos-ES), Rosana Foerst (Cidadania-ES), who could assume the mandate if the senator's resignation is confirmed, was chosen at random, reveals... newspaper Gazeta ES.
"An advisor to the then-candidate arrived at the committee and said that he needed two names, affiliated with the party, who had no impediment to being on the ticket. Those holding public office, for example, could not participate because the deadline for resigning from their positions had already passed. Rosana Foerst was there at the time and offered to help. The idea was that, within the timeframe stipulated by the Electoral Court, the alternates would be replaced by names chosen after further reflection," the report highlights.
In an interview with CNN Brazil this Thursday, Marcos do Val confirmed that the decision was made randomly, but denied that he will leave his post.
"Letting the alternate take over is out of the question, because during the campaign – which was without resources – I didn't have anyone to name as an alternate, and at the time I had a city councilor's secretary, and I asked her if she could lend her documents to be my alternate. She did, and that was it, she was elected, and she thought… I had a heart attack in the first year, and she sent a message saying, 'Look, I'm ready to take over.' She didn't even ask if I was okay. Then I said, 'Look, nothing like that was agreed upon. Forget about that possibility.' So, the possibility of someone taking my place is zero [chance]. I can't let all the work I've done so far be destroyed. And I also can't abandon the mission I've undertaken, alone until now, to present to society and the press who has committed malfeasance. So the decision hasn't been made yet," he pointed out.
The senator announced it in a live broadcast on Instagram. a "bombshell" against Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who allegedly coerced him into helping him in a coup d'état.
Do Val stated to g1 that the plan involved wiretapping - without judicial authorization - the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Alexandre de Moraes.
