Supreme Court rejects habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Roberto Jefferson.
Former congressman is imprisoned in Bangu 8, in Rio de Janeiro.
Agência Brasil/EBC - Supreme Court Justice Edson Fachin denied habeas corpus filed on behalf of the former federal deputy Roberto Jefferson, arrested for shooting at federal police officers who were executing an arrest warrant against him..
In the decision, signed on November 3rd, Fachin did not analyze the request for release and understood that the appeal was inadmissible for procedural reasons, including the fact that it had not been requested by Jefferson's defense. The request was filed by a lawyer from Tupã (SP).
On October 27th, Jefferson was arrested in the act by the Federal Police (PF) after resisting the execution of an arrest warrant issued by Minister Alexandre de Moraes. The warrant was issued after the former parliamentarian published a video on the internet in which he insulted Minister Cármen Lúcia with vulgar language.
Before being arrested at his home in the municipality of Comendador Levy Gasparian (RJ), Jefferson fired rifle shots and threw grenades at the police officers who went to the scene. As a result of the incident, he was indicted by the Federal Police for four counts of attempted murder.
Jefferson is in Bangu 8 prison in Rio de Janeiro.
