The Senate wants to vote on political reform in early March.

The president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), wants the House to vote on a political reform bill for the country as early as the beginning of March. According to him, the idea is for the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies to vote on proposals related to the topic in parallel – such as public financing of campaigns, the length of executive mandates, and the prohibition of coalitions in proportional elections, for example – to prevent the bill from stalling in either House after being approved by one of them.

Pernambuco 247 - The president of the Senate, Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), wants the House to vote on the political reform bill for the country as early as the beginning of March. Voting on the proposals regarding political reform has been scheduled for the first week of March, right after the end of Carnival. Currently, there are ten proposals on the subject being processed in the Senate. Amid controversies surrounding certain points, such as public financing of electoral campaigns, Renan intends to suggest the creation of a ceiling between 5% and 8% of the total campaign value allocated to contributions from the private sector.

Last week, the Chamber of Deputies established a committee to address discussions regarding political reform. In the Senate, thematic sessions will be held to discuss specific topics related to the subject, leading up to the final vote on the matter.
