Senate completes penultimate stage of impeachment.

Senators meet this Tuesday (9), starting at 9 am, to begin analyzing in plenary the opinion of Senator Antonio Anastasia (PSDB-MG) in favor of the impeachment of suspended President Dilma Rousseff for crimes of responsibility, due to the signing of budget supplementation decrees and the carrying out of credit operations between the Treasury and the Bank of Brazil. If Anastasia's text is approved, Dilma will go to trial at the end of this month.

The session will be coordinated by the president of the Supreme Federal Court, Ricardo Lewandowski, and is expected to last approximately 20 hours. It will begin with the presentation of... points of order by the senators, and then Anastasia will read the report.

From there, each senator will have ten minutes to speak. As of last night, the list of those registered to speak had 43 senators. After them, the prosecution will have 30 minutes to make its final considerations, and the defense another 30 minutes, before the voting begins.

Senators will vote using the Senate's electronic voting system, and party leaders may submit up to four amendments per party to the text to be voted on separately. The proposed changes to the text will be voted on immediately after the main text.

In a meeting in the Senate last week, Lewandowski agreed on these and other details of the session with the party leaders. It was established that the session will continue until the final vote, with one-hour breaks every four hours for the parliamentarians to rest. The expectation is that all votes will take place in the early hours of Wednesday (10).
