When asked if he intends to run in the 2012 elections as a candidate for mayor of São Paulo, his current electoral domicile, former sports minister Orlando Silva dismissed the possibility: "Brazilian democracy has room for me to prove my innocence and return to the political scene in 2012," he stated.

Present at the state conference of the PCdoB in Bahia, he was treated as a martyr by communist militants and politicians. Silva took advantage of the end of the first part of the event to defend himself against accusations of illicit acts involving NGOs: "Now that I've left the ministry, I will have time to make my full defense and I will soon be presenting evidence," reaffirmed the former minister, who used his return to Salvador to recharge his energies and leave invigorated for the arduous struggle he will face.
