Rui Costa confirms interest in running for Senate in 2026.

The Chief of Staff is considering joining forces with the Governor of Bahia, Jerônimo Rodrigues, and Senator Jaques Wagner in the upcoming elections.

247 - The Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, said this Friday (7) that he has made his name available to run for a seat in the Senate in the 2026 elections. According to MetropolisIn an interview with Rádio Metrópole, from Bahia, the former governor of the state stated that he has already begun conversations with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) about the possibility, but that he will only make a final decision at the beginning of next year.

"My name is on the table. Obviously, I will still have to talk to the president about it at the beginning of next year. But I spoke with the president, I made my name available to be on the ticket as a senator. We have a lot of work to do," said Rui, highlighting his desire to win the second available Senate seat in Bahia, which will have elections for two seats in 2026. The current senator, Jaques Wagner, also from the PT, is expected to seek re-election.

Rui Costa, who was governor of Bahia between 2015 and 2023, was succeeded by Jerônimo Rodrigues, the current governor of the state, with whom he could form a ticket for the elections.
