BRASILIA (Reuters) - State Representative Manuela D'Avila will be the vice-presidential candidate on the ticket with former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), and former São Paulo mayor Fernando Haddad is the party's plan B to assume the candidacy in case the former president's candidacy is challenged, a source closely following the negotiations told Reuters.

Haddad traveled to Curitiba this Friday, accompanied by the party president, Senator Gleisi Hoffmann (PR), and the PT's finance secretary, immediately after the National Directorate meeting, to discuss the agreement with Lula.

Manuela was presented as the presidential candidate by the PCdoB at a convention last Wednesday, but the party had left open the possibility of allying with the PT in a left-wing front, provided that the PT ceded the vice-presidential slot to Manuela.

According to the source, Haddad will be available to assume the presidential candidacy slot should Lula's candidacy likely be challenged. Lula, convicted in the second instance for passive corruption and money laundering, is expected to fall under the Clean Record Law.
